State Fair Housing Law

We build in North Carolina and South Carolina, and state law applies alongside the federal statute. The North Carolina State Fair Housing Act is administered by the North Carolina Human Relations Commission. The South Carolina Fair Housing Law is administered by the South Carolina Human Affairs Commission. Where state law protects more than the federal statute does, the broader protection applies.

Accessibility in Design and Construction

The Fair Housing Act sets accessible design and construction requirements for certain covered multifamily dwellings. Requirements depend on the building type, the number of units, and the applicable building code, so they vary by project. Ask us about the specific home or community you are considering and we will tell you what applies to it.

Reporting a Concern

You may also file a housing discrimination complaint directly with the federal government, and you do not need to contact us first. The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development's Office of Fair Housing and Equal Opportunity accepts complaints online, by mail, and by telephone; current filing instructions and contact details are published at hud.gov. Complaints may also be filed with the North Carolina Human Relations Commission or the South Carolina Human Affairs Commission for housing located in those states. Time limits apply to filing a complaint.
